And the Winner of the TFBC Naked Frame Contest is….

After 14 frames and four weeks of voting, you’ve chosen a winner:

Congratulations Lancaster County Timber Frames, Inc., winner of the 2012 Sexiest Frame Tournament!

This church, St. Thomas the Apostle Orthodox Church, Waldorf, Maryland, features Douglas Fir timbers with three multi-tiered cupolas. The middle, and highest cupola, reaches over 40’ (before the golden onion dome begins). Many of the cupola and valley connections were on a much more difficult level than your standard post or girt. Lancaster County Timber Frames, Inc. handcrafted all of this complex mortise and tenon joinery in their shop.

One would never think that the word “sexy” would be associated with a church, and we apologize in advance for that. Contest voters did not know the frame was a church, and the contest name “is what it is.” The winning frame does show the beauty and complexity of the joinery, as well as the warmth of the wood. This church is the long culmination of planning and saving to get just the right design and budget in order to bring dreams of many parishioners to reality. Thank you to all who participated, we look forward to sharing with you again next year.
