TFBC Member, NatureRails, Launches New Website

Posted By TFBC- HDQ on August 19, 2010

To celebrate 7 years in business, TFBC member, NatureRails, has launched a new, interactive website. Serving customers from Canada, Alaska and the continental US, NatureRails creates beautiful custom designed artistic balconies and home décor that fit perfectly in any timber frame home. Their new website allows customers to download installation guides, order form and measuring guides as well as use a “mouse over” feature, which shows the viewer what a favorite picture will look like as a NatureRail!

About NatureRails and designer Rob Gerdin

NatureRails credits its distinctiveness to owner and designer Rob Gerdin, a lifelong artist who was able to bring together his love of both art and nature to develop NatureRails and provide homeowners across the country with beautiful railings and décor. No project too big or too small, Gerdin is able to create maintenance free steel railings that are a unique alternative to ordinary spindles and balusters. From just a picture or idea, NatureRails can meet any residential or commercial requirement.

NatureRails has recently been named as a hot new deck trend in the August 2010 edition of Cabin Life Magazine. To visit their new website and see how NatureRails can add the finishing touches to your timber frame, please click here.

Customer Testimonial: “We believe that the timber frame and stress-skin panel in the roof saved our house…”

Posted By TFBC- HDQ on August 17, 2010

Special thanks goes to OakBridge Timber Framing for sharing this testimonial with us:

July 20th, 2010

Hi OakBridge, I thought you might be interested to know what happened to our OakBridge timber frame home this past Sunday evening, July 18.

We were away when a storm came through. When we arrived back home, we found that a large hickory tree in our front yard had fallen on our house. The guy who came to remove the tree couldn’t believe that it hadn’t fallen completely through the house. We believe that the timber frame and the stress-skin panel in the roof saved our house. When the tree came down, it landed on the timbers at the very peak of the house, which apparently absorbed the shock and prevented it from going any farther. On the inside, you couldn’t even tell that anything had happened!

We were able to stay in our house the entire time. They removed the tree today and we still have to make repairs to the roof, but it could have been much worse.

Thanks,
Dave and Mary Burget

In Touch’s Timber Frame of the Month: Fly-Fisherman’s Paradise

Posted By TFBC- HDQ on July 21, 2010

This month’s Timber Frame comes from Cabin Creek Timber Frames, based out of Franklin, NC.

This vacation home sits on the breathtaking Nantahala River outside Franklin, NC, the location chosen specifically by the owner, a fly-fishing enthusiast. Just steps from the house is a fly-fishing paradise in the Nantahala River, one of the finest trout streams in the eastern US. The crew at Cabin Creek Timber Frames had to “ford” the Nantahala River with the timber frame to get to the job site, making for a fun (albeit unusual) arrival! The great room, bedroom and dining rooms features stunning framework, showcasing the craftsmanship of the Cabin Creek team.

For more information on this home or Cabin Creek Timber Frames, please visit them online or call (828) 369-5899. To view more pictures of this project, click here.

A recent article in Automated Builder showcased Porter SIPs, and gave special mention of the fact that they were very fortunate in coming up with use of the software called Dietrich’s 3D CAD/CAM from Dietrich’s North America with their head office in Canada. They had previously tried to run their PBA machine with computer software from another organization but try as they may over many months the software never was able to make the grade. However, when they switched to the Dietrich’s 3D CAD/CAM brand from Dietrich’s North America the software worked smoothly and greatly improved their overall CNC production of precisely shaped and cut SIP panels. Real Carriage Door Company showcased on DIY’s “Man Caves”

Posted By TFBC- HDQ on June 16, 2010

Watch Real Carriage Door Company on DIY's "Man Caves" Sunday, June 20th at 9PM ET

by Scott Rees, Real Carriage Door Company, Marketing Director

DIY (Do It Yourself) Network will feature automatic, outswing carriage doors crafted by Gig Harbor company, Real Carriage Door on their hit show “Man Caves”. The one hour Father’s day special will document the transformation of an average garage into an upscale NASCAR-themed cave that would make any man envious. The lucky owner is North Carolina resident, Gary Johnson, father of NASCAR racing champion, Jimmie Johnson.

Real Carriage Door Company owner, Don Rees, will fly out to the East coast to install his beautifully handcrafted wooden doors and explain how garage doors traditionally opened, swinging out at the center. Witness Don tackle installing large carriage garage doors and one entry door amidst the frenzied pace of a cable TV construction show. As with any remodeling project, he’ll contend with an out of square opening, hinge placement, and those unpredictable problems that arise on the spur of the moment, demanding a concrete solution. The best part will be saved for last, when the man cave is revealed at the show’s end, and the Real Carriage Doors swing open at the push of a button.

Nationally known, Gig Harbor Washington based Real Carriage Door Company handcrafts custom interior and exterior solid wood doors, specializing in garage-sized doors. Every door is custom built and is a great addition to any studio or man cave where strength and size have no comparison. Real Carriage Doors is leading a renaissance with genuine doors that swing, slide, or even, bi-fold. Make sure to see one of these “Real” Carriage Doors up-close on the DIY Network!

Watch “Man Caves” Jimmie Johnson” on Father’s Day, June 20th, 9pm ET on DIY Network.
